Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune neuromuscular disease that can cause weakness in certain muscle groups in the body.
Dr. Shalini Mahajan, a neurologist at Attune Health, spoke as the Medical Ambassador at the annual MG Walk, held in Los Angeles on Nov. 18.
The MG Walk Campaign is held each year to create awareness of the disease, and promote a sense of community and support for patients with MG. The campaign also raises funds for myasthenia gravis research. This year, more than $800,000 has been raised nationally by the campaign.
Dr. Mahajan spoke about the significant advances in treatment and management options that have become available to patients over the last many years, including the recently FDA-approved Eculizumab, the first targeted therapy for MG. She encouraged people to seek care and treatment because different treatment options are available, now more than ever before, and have helped reduce the significant burden this disease causes in the MG community.
